From 2017 to 2021 the amount of H1 results for leaving cert higher level maths has increased.
Why?
Who knows but there are a few reasons that we can come up with.
- As more online resources become available students are able to be better prepared for exams.
- In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Leaving Cert results were assessed by predicted grades. No official exams were sat. Hence, examiners gave results based on continuous assessment.
- In 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic still had an affect on the Leaving Cert examination process and therefore introduced a hybrid examination process. By doing this, it allowed students to choose which exams they wanted to sit and which they requested a predicted grade.
- We can see from the graph that in 2021, Maths results for a H1 and H2 had increased. But, we don’t know if these students sat the exam, requested predicted grades, or is it a mix of both.
This graph is open for interpretation, but as a maths community it is important to be aware of students results and how we can help every student achieve their best grade possible!
